Bruce Molinelli, MD is Chief of Staff and Director of Minimally Invasive Robotic and Bariatric Surgery for Greenwich Hospital. He regularly addresses local and national organizations about minimally invasive robotic surgery and often serves as invited faculty for national meetings of leading medical associations including ASMBS (American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons) and SAGES (Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endocscopic Surgeons). He is a consultant to companies such as Ethicon (Johnson and Johnson), Covidien, and Applied Medical and Intuitive Inc. (maker of the DaVinci Robot).
Dr. Molinelli has been on the forefront of the new, developing field of single-incision laparoscopic surgery, which advances the minimally invasive component of surgery to use even fewer incisions, thereby further minimizing postoperative pain, discomfort and scarring. He was an invited guest to a think tank sponsored by Ethicon on the developing field of single-incision laparoscopy. He has appeared in the media on CNN On Health and Channel 12 News as an expert on minimally invasive surgery procedures.
Dr. Molinelli has participated in surgical missions around the world. He has been to Africa, Russia, Vietnam and Cambodia, serving as surgeon, teaching surgeon, and advisor on the newest techniques and technological advancements.
Dr. Molinelli is active in local and regional politics related to medicine and associated issues. He is an active member of the Connecticut State Chapter of the ACOS (American College of Surgeons). The initials, F.A.C.S. after Dr. Molineli’s name, indicate that his education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and are consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the ACOS.
Dr. Molinelli and Petrotos are pioneers in development of this minimally invasive technique applying it to surgery of the gallbladder, appendix, colon, hernia and bariatric (obesity) surgical procedures.
