Weight-loss surgery (bariatric surgery) is typically reserved for people who are 100 pounds or more overweight and who have not responded to other less invasive weight loss therapies such as diet, exercise and medications. Thanks to advances over the last ten years, weight loss surgery is changing the lives of over 150,000 individuals each year.
The American Society for Bariatric Surgery recommends two basic approaches to weight-loss surgery; restrictive procedures that decrease food intake, and malabsorptive procedures (developed to work in conjunction with restrictive approaches) that alter digestion, causing the food to be poorly digested and incompletely absorbed.
If you have had bariatric surgery or are planning to have it, you are invited to participate in this free bimonthly group where bariatric professionals will address a variety of topics to help you achieve the best possible outcomes. All groups run from 6:00-7:30 PM in Greenwich Hospital's Cafeteria Conference Room.
